This foulard silk dress was designed in Paris by couture designer Christian Dior. It belonged to Guendolen Carkeek Plestcheeff (1892-1994), daughter of early Seattle setters, Morgan and Emily Carkeek. Guendolen was sent to Europe for schooling at age 13 and travelled frequently between Seattle and Europe as an adult. Known as one of the most stylish women in Seattle, Guendolen was a customer at many of the most well-known couture houses in Paris. Following in the footsteps of her mother, who founded the Seattle Historical Society, Guendolen was active in promoting preservation of local history, and was president of Seattle Historical Society for 17 years. Plestcheeff was instrumental in helping the Society acquire the property off Lake Washington Boulevard where the Museum of History & Industry was first located.
